Employee Spotlight: A Rising Star

We are honored to congratulate Tierra Bush, Sourcing & Event Consultant with Meetings & Incentives Worldwide for being named the Volunteer of the Year for The Exchange during the Indianapolis Urban League’s New Year’s Eve fundraiser, Exchanging Out the Years.

As part of our Global Giveback program, our team members volunteer their time and talents to make a positive difference in the world. She is a sterling example of what it means to be of service and a rising star within our industry, so we wanted to learn more about her passions and role.

Q. How long have you been involved with the Indianapolis Urban League and The Exchange?

I have been a member of the Exchange at the Indianapolis Urban League for two years. I currently serve as the Executive Vice President, which is a role charged with all operational support and coordination of the internal workings of The Exchange. I also lead the planning committee for our NYE fundraiser.

Q. Tell us a little bit about the good work you are doing with The Exchange?

The primary focus of The Exchange is to support the community initiatives of the Indianapolis Urban League (IUL). We do this not only through fundraising but also by building our membership of young professionals that are passionate about social justice and advocating for a better Indianapolis.

In addition to supporting the IUL, The Exchange is the 2019 Central Region Emerging Chapter for the National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP). Through this affiliation, we strive to grow the Urban League Movement by empowering communities and changing lives as a part of a national body of more than 10,000 members. Local leaders of each chapter commit an average of 30 hours monthly to the work of their chapters.

In 2020, The Exchange along with the IUL, NULYP and National Urban League (NUL) will lead the community in both the Census and General Election engagement efforts. We are ready to help make sure everyone is counted and that their voices are heard.

Q. What does it mean to you to receive the Volunteer of the Year Award?

Being recognized for my contributions to The Exchange is a great honor. Though I believe the spirit of service is selfless, it’s heartening to know that I’m making an impact worthy of recognition. The award is very motivating, and I look forward to continuing the work with our talented leadership team and our dedicated members.

In closing, we had one last question for Tierra and asked her what is the best piece of advice you received regarding your career? Her response was perfect, “do what makes you happy.” When you work in an industry that brings people together for amazing outcomes, your work becomes your passion.
